Give the Gift of Beautiful Skin

Have you ever noticed what virtually all supermodels have in common? That’s right—it’s flawless skin. Even if you have perfect facial features and a stunning figure, having obvious blemishes, wrinkles, or an overall dull look to your skin can sorely detract from your natural beauty. That’s why here at Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg, we believe in giving the gift of beautiful skin. Whether your loved one is male or female, young or old, traditional or a fan of avant-garde style, he or she will truly appreciate receiving one of the procedures below as a gift.

The Top 3 Skin Rejuvenation Procedures

  1. The Obagi System

The Obagi system is famous for producing the “Blue Peel,” a highly effective form of chemical peel. Chemical peels are used to remove the uppermost layer of the skin in a gentle yet thorough way. In doing so, they can erase a wide array of different skin imperfections, such as fine lines, sun spots, small scars, enlarged pores, and areas of uneven pigmentation. Likewise, they’re useful in treating areas of dark pigmentation that have arisen due to pregnancy, birth control use, or other factors.

Chemical peels are also excellent collagen stimulators: When they remove the first layer of the dermis, the body goes into “healing mode” and tells the skin to produce new collagen and elastin in order to regenerate skin cells. As a result, the new layer of skin that forms is firmer, brighter, and more even in tone and texture than the one that preceded it.

The Obagi system differs from other chemical peels in the fact that it is capable of treating the aforementioned cosmetic problems on a deeper level—without causing the same amount of peeling, redness, or swelling as a conventional deep chemical peel. Because Obagi peels penetrate more deeply into the supportive second layer of the dermis, they’re adept at treating skin laxity as well as superficial blemishes.

The Obagi system takes measures to help your skin heal more effectively, too. First and foremost, it comes with a specially-formulated professional-grade sunscreen that will keep your skin safe from sun damage after the peeling solution has been applied. (Sun damage is the only major risk associated with chemical peel treatments.) Unlike conventional sunscreen, Obagi system sunscreen will not cause irritation; on the contrary, it’s been designed to soothe and nourish healing skin.

Note that different Obagi formulations are available to treat a range of different skin types (and problems): There’s an Obagi system that specifically targets acne, for example, and there’s a nourishing Obagi anti-aging formula that’s been developed for use on sensitive skin.

  1. BOTOX®

BOTOX® is an excellent “beginner” cosmetic procedure. It’s extremely adept at treating and preventing dynamic wrinkles, it requires just one brief appointment and no surgery is involved. Contrary to myth, BOTOX® does not “freeze” a person’s face, nor is it strongly associated with any other serious adverse reactions.

Because BOTOX® can help prevent wrinkles as well as minimize existing lines, most cosmetic surgeons recommend this procedure for anyone over the age of 30. Starting BOTOX® early relaxes the muscles in common problem areas (such as on the forehead and around the eyes), reducing the amount of stress placed on the skin by muscle contractions. This means it will take much longer for wrinkles to form “imprints” in the skin.

  1. Dermal Fillers

Dermal fillers aren’t just for lip enhancement anymore. Today, these versatile substances are being used to fill in wrinkles, add volume to the cheeks, erase old acne scars, and even correct imperfections on the nose.  Like BOTOX®, dermal fillers are both safe and temporary; if you have dermal fillers injected, you can expect them to last between 9 to 12 months.

Dermal fillers, BOTOX®, and the Obagi system form a set of what we call “complementary procedures.” This, in brief, means that the results of these treatments coalesce to produce a cohesively smooth, lifted, and revitalized look. Obagi enhances the overall appearance of the skin, dermal fillers fill in deep-set hollows and wrinkles, and BOTOX® eliminates dynamic wrinkles.

Giving the Gift of Better Skin

With all of the skin-enhancing procedures available today, giving the gift of beautiful skin is easier than ever before… And the best part? All the procedures listed above are non-surgical, meaning that the patient doesn’t need to take any time out to have them.

Modern cosmetic medicine is safe, largely side effect free, convenient, and affordable—making it the perfect gift for just about anyone. So, what are you waiting for? Let someone you care about in on the best-kept skincare secret there is: Cosmetic medicine.

Skin Care Tips for Gorgeous Winter Skin

Have you ever noticed that as the air gets colder your skin gets drier? Winter’s chilly air might be a welcome break from the heat of summer, but for your skin it is a time of serious adjustment. Cold air is less humid than warm air and when you fire up the heat inside, the problem gets even worse. To keep your skin looking radiant through the holiday season and until spring, try these simple skin care tips. This year make sure the only flakes in your life are snowflakes, not dry, flaky facial skin.

Switch Up Your Products

The transition between summer and winter is the perfect time to reevaluate your skin care products. Don’t just wander aimlessly down the beauty aisle at your local store; come in to Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg and let us help you find the right products for your skin. If you’ve been struggling with dry skin, battling acne that won’t go away, wanting to fade brown spots, or combating fine lines and wrinkles, we can recommend products that will target your problem areas.

Many of our patients love using the Obagi Medical line of skin care products, a unique facial care system that focuses on building a strong foundation for a lifetime of radiant, beautiful skin. Unlike store products, each product in the Obagi line works in synergy with the others for more dramatic results. With the Obagi line you’ll know that your skin care products are working together, not counteracting each other. You won’t find Obagi on the shelves of your local store, but we do carry it here and are certain that you’ll love it just as much as we do if you give it a try.

Moisturize More

One key for combating the dryness of winter is to step up your moisturizing routine. If you’ve only been the occasional moisturizer, make sure you do it every day, preferably after each cleanse. Moisturizing won’t just keep your skin soft; if you choose a moisturizer with an SPF you’ll also be protecting your skin from the sun’s rays and reducing your skin cancer risk. (The Obagi line includes sun protection.)

Exfoliate Less

Exfoliating to strip away dead skin cells is great skin care advice in the warmer months, but in the winter you’ll want to exfoliate less. Exfoliating can dry skin and during the winter you want as much moisture as you can get.

Skip the Hot Showers

A hot shower might warm you up on a chilly morning, but it will also dry your skin. Opt for a warm shower and a cup of hot cocoa instead.

Put the Twinkle Back in Your Eyes

If you want to reward yourself with a real holiday treat, give your eyes a boost this winter. The Elastiderm eye products from Obagi are some of our most popular sellers. They can noticeably tighten the skin around the eyes for a more youthful look. If your eyes have lost their twinkle and found a few wrinkles instead, give yourself the gift of Elastiderm this holiday season.

Winter might be dry skin season, but with a few changes to your skin care routine you can feel moisturized all winter long. Come see us for some personalized skin care advice or to give the highly recommended Obagi line of products a try.
