All About Anesthesia

The anesthesia providers at Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg are certified in anesthesia by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. A nurse anesthetist is a registered nurse who has 24 to 36 months of graduate course work including both class room and clinical experience, in addition to the testing required for certification.

You will meet your anesthesia provider prior to going into surgery. Your anesthesia provider will ask you questions about your health and/or ask you to fill out an anesthesia questionnaire. Your anesthesia provider will discuss the planned anesthetic with you. Please feel free to ask as many questions necessary for you to feel comfortable with the anesthetic plan.

Your anesthesia provider is with you the entire time you are in surgery. He/ she will be monitoring your vital signs and adjusting the anesthetic to ensure your maximum safety and comfort. Your anesthesia provider will also monitor every important function of your body. Along with the anesthetic, your anesthesia provider may also administer IV fluids, antibiotics and other necessary medications.

Your anesthesia provider will accompany you to the recovery room when surgery is done. He/she will stay with you until you are stable and the anesthetic is wearing off.
