Facelift Myths and Facts

There are a lot of misconceptions, myths, and misunderstandings floating around about facelifts and honestly, it’s a shame. These myths keep people that could greatly benefit from the surgery from exploring their options. People are afraid of facelifts because they don’t understand what the procedure actually entails or the results they might achieve. Let’s cut through the myths and learn the facts about facelifts so you can decide if you’d like to learn more about this age defying cosmetic surgery treatment.

Myth #1- Facelifts Are Only for the Old

You don’t have to be in your 50s, 60s, or 70s to enjoy the benefits of a facelift. In fact, surgery can create subtle, enhancing changes when performed on younger patients. If you aren’t ready for a full facelift, we offer a mini-facelift that can provide many of the benefits of a facelift in a scaled back version for younger patients.

Myth #2- After a Facelift Your Face Will Look Tight, Pulled, and Fake

With the right cosmetic surgeon and treatment plan, a facelift can create natural looking results. No one has to know you’ve had a facelift; they’ll just think you look great because you do. Surgical techniques have evolved extensively over the past couple of decades and you’d be amazed at how natural a facelift can look. Myth #3- Men Can’t Benefit from a Facelift

Facelifts aren’t just for women; men can benefit from them to. In facelift surgery we remove excess fat, tighten muscles, and reposition skin to knock years off of your look. Last year almost 10% of facelifts were performed on male patients.

Myth #4- Recovery from a Facelift is Very Painful

When people think of facelifts, they think of a painful procedure with a long recovery period. They assume that a facelift will require them to miss months of work, holed away while they recover. In reality, the procedure takes between 3 and 5 hours itself. After surgery you’ll need to rest and give your body time to heal. We can talk with you about your recovery before surgery and provide you with tips and pain relief to reduce your discomfort during the first few days. Most people find that pain during recovery is minimal and many people are able to return to work after about 2 weeks.

Myth #5- Life Style Lift is different than a mini facelift

Both procedures are mini facelifts, but the mini facelift procedure performed in our office provides unexcelled longevity while not producing significant discomfort or extended downtime.  A complete evaluation is performed by the surgeon initially to formulate the ideal procedure and achieve optimal results. Patients who opt for the Lifestyle Lift will have their initial evaluation performed by a consultant and will only meet the surgeon on the day of the surgery.

Myth #6- Non-Surgical Options Are Just as Effective as a Facelift

We offer many non-surgical options to enhance your look including injectable fillers and freezers. While these can offer dramatic results, it is important to remember that they aren’t an alternative to a facelift. Only a facelift can remove excess fat and tighten muscle. Fillers are a temporary solution whereas a facelift provides long term and often more dramatic results.
