Why we chose Smart-Lipo™
We understand that choosing who will perform your liposuction procedure is a very personal decision. That’s why Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg makes every effort to ensure your safety, comfort and peace of mind.
Many advances have been made since Liposuction’s inception in the 1980’s.The most recent advance utilizes laser which can stimulate collagen production in the skin, which in turn offer skin-tightening benefits.
Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg uses the most advanced techniques and equipment but more importantly, the qualifications and skill of our board certified plastic surgeons ensures your desired result.
About the Techniques
The newest techniques (in the past 5 years) in Laser Assisted Liposuction are associated with the following names: Cool Lipo, Slim Lipo and SmartLipo. All three technologies deliver heat energy provided by a laser to the undersurface of the skin to not only melt fat, but to also cause extra skin tightening (shrinkage) after the procedure.
While new technology is exciting, the key to your cosmetic surgery experience is finding a well-qualified board certified plastic surgeon. When considering any type of liposuction procedure your surgeon should be able to provide their expertise on which option will achieve the results tailored to match your needs. Our surgeons have years of training and experience in traditional and laser assisted liposuction and want to help you achieve your cosmetic goals.
Our Board Certified Plastic Surgeons
While there are many doctors in specialties outside of plastic surgery who use the word “cosmetic” in their advertising and on their websites, our plastic surgeons have the training, skill and experience necessary for a successful outcome.
Our surgeons are certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery which is recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. This requires extensive training combined with rigorous examinations. Many doctors use the word cosmetic in their advertising and associate it with board certification. However, if they are not plastic surgeons, these boards are not recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. Laser liposuction is an advanced technique that involves delivering heat injury to fat and skin. Plastic surgeons have the skill and experience as well as a thorough understanding of the technology necessary for a successful outcome in this procedure.
Ensuring Your Safety
While all three methods are effective in maximizing the results of liposculpture as well as tightening skin, the board certified plastic surgeons of Plastic Surgery Services believe SmartLipo is a safer solution for fat removal. Our surgeons selected SmartLipo as the technology of choice over alternatives such as Cool Lipo or Slim Lipo because SmartLipo received FDA approval first and it uses a dual platform laser in which one wavelength is used for firming the skin and the other for liquefying the fat. This allows the operating surgeon to alternate between the two wavelengths or use them simultaneously depending on the quality of the skin and body type of the patients. In addition, SmartLipo has a decreased risk of burns because it has two safety features:
- SmartLipo has an internal thermometer (thermistor) that tells the surgeon, in real time, how hot the undersurface of the skin is, and
- SmartLipo has a device known as an Accelerometer, borrowed from the Sony Wii technology, which is designed to turn the laser off if it senses the surgeon’s hand has stopped moving during the surgery.
Our AAAASF Accredited Facility
Your safety and well-being is of utmost importance to us. In addition to finding a well qualified plastic surgeon, the type of facility your procedure is performed in is critical to your surgical success. Our state-of-the art surgical suites have achieved the highest level of certification by the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities, Inc. (AAAASF). This organization inspects our facility on a regular basis and ensures that our surgical facility, equipment and staff are safe and in compliance with standards related to quality care, emergency preparedness and cleanliness. Treatment in any facility that is not accredited indicates that there is no assurance that the standard of care is being met.
Your Comfort and Anesthesia
Normally liposuction is performed under IV sedation unless the area being treated is very small. This eliminates the need for multiple injections of anesthetic which can be painful, incomplete or even toxic if administered improperly or in excessive doses. We offer various anesthesia options depending on the procedure or treatments you are considering and to ensure your maximum safety and comfort. The anesthesia providers at Plastic Surgery Services of Fredericksburg are certified in anesthesia by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. During your SmartLipo procedure, your nurse anesthetist will monitor your vital signs and administer sedation intravenously to allow you to be completely asleep and pain free. This technique also allows patients to quickly wake-up and resume normal activity.
Be confident when considering liposuction alternatives and only consult with a board certified plastic surgeon who operates in a certified facility. Our experienced plastic surgeons can counsel patients on the liposuction treatment that is appropriate for them whether it is tumescent, ultrasonic (Lysonix, Ultrasculpt, Vaser), Power Assisted Liposuction (Microaire) or Laser Liposuction. Plastic Surgeons are not limited in their treatment options, as are many physicians with less training. This allows the patient to be confident they are receiving the best possible care.
